The newest coaching addition to 5 Rings, Moni was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Duquesne University in 1997. Upon graduation he took a commissioning into the United States Marine Corps.
He has trained for and graduated from some of the more physically and psychologically demanding schools the U.S. Military has to offer such as the U.S. Marine Corps' infantry officer course, Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger and SERE schools.
Moni discovered crossfit in 2008. Not long after attaining his Crossfit Level I Certification, his passion grew for the iron sports. He is now a USAW Advanced Sports Performance Coach. He has also trained for and competed in a wide variety of physical tests including marathons, powerlifting, weightlifting, crossfit and kettlebell competitions, and also 4 combat tours between Iraq and Afghanistan. During his time in the military he has had the honor of training under and working with some of the industry's greats including Coach Harvey Newton, Dr. Charlie Weingroff and Dr. "Iron Mike" Davis.
Moni's passion lies in helping athletes new to the sport of weightlifting develop on the platform. He also knows what it means to come back from injury as he had shoulder reconstruction in December of 2014. He sees the experience and the lessons learned from it as something to be shared with new lifters and fellow athletes. With his own training primarily as a weightlifter, he is looking forward to returning to the competitive platform soon.
In his free time, Moni enjoys consuming red meat, drinking Mead, tossing axes and telling tall tales around a roaring fire.
